THE ECLIPSE

I actually never thought I'd post here again, but for some strange reason I automatically thought of this blog when trying to decide if/how to upload eclipse photos. I can in no way guarantee that I will continue updating this, but there you go. :)

Coursework Statement

My final coursework is a set of four designs, each a visual representation of four English idioms. I had an idea to combine different things into one image, and depicting idioms seemed a perfect way to do it. The designs were made by manipulating in Photoshop various photographs I had taken and combining them with outlines done in Illustrator. 

More Photography

These images were made using pixlr-o-matic, something I discovered a while back and obsessively fed my phone's pictures through. It didn't take me long to discover that a bad picture would look better with a vignette, but it still didn't make the picture good.

So by now it's pretty obvious that I like to take photos of things.

More specifically, I like how photography can make you see things that you don't usually see, like the stars or the rest of the moon. It's easier to make pictures of these things and have them be attractive, since 1. people don't usually see them. and 2. they're naturally pretty. But I like best those photographs of ordinary things that force you to notice them. That's probably why I like the top photograph; it's a little plant growing at the window above the staircase from the hall to the canteen. I noticed it growing for more than half a year before I decided to take a picture of it. The bottom photograph is of Uncle Jack, who was untying the flagpole under the heavy rain. 

Crescent

I took this today! It looked really nice in the sky. It took me more than a dozen tries to get this picture, and it's still blur! I didn't have the time to get a sharp picture, though.

On a side note, I'm proud of the fact that I can (passably) use my camera in the dark!

Sketches/ Doodles

I sketch when I am bored, when I am stressed, or when I have nothing to do. I prefer rough sketching and adding pretty details to being a perfectionist. The first three pictures were drawn in my room, and the rest were drawn in class...

These are my shelves! I like them very much. On the top I have a model windmill, some dolphin-thing, a ship, a flip-flap plant, the salt tree I uploaded a picture of earlier, an empty money box (the circular thing) and other things that I didn't draw in.

This is supposed to be my bed, with some now unidentifiable bit of clothing hanging over the edge. I have cat bedsheets.

The bookshelf in my room! The dumbbells in the corner are there for show. No one uses them.

This was drawn in class! I like it even though the dragonflies are not proportionate. It is a tissue paper packet. The quote is by one of my friends.

A doodle! This one took forever. I like fractals and curves. 

I don't like this one as much because the random things don't seem to fit together that nicely. This is probably because I drew it in pen. I used up a lot of ink.

This was more of a quick boredom-relieving doodle than an attempt to fill up the page with pretty things. I like circles, too .

These are calculator buttons. I drew one of them (probably during a lesson) and another one followed. I think the lesson ended before I could start on 9, so I wrote down a lame joke - 'seven ate nine'.

Funfair!

For this year's funfair, my class ran a dunking machine. Comparing these to the funfair poster I did in Secondary 1 a few posts down, I think it's safe to say my skills improved quite a bit.

I like how the colours and fonts look here, especially the yellow and the DUNK. A disclaimer: the words in the posters aren't mine!

Class Tees

My class has been asking me to the design class tee every year, mostly because I'm the only one in my class from art. I did these using Illustrator :)

That was the 308 tee! (The san ba jing shen part was removed before printing.) We passed around a sheet of paper and asked people to draw emoticons, then I had to translate those into tiny little smiling mantous.

The front of the 408 tee was inspired by barcode drawings which I thought were really cool. It's mostly made up on swirl vectors, since in times of stress and doubt I end up drawing swirly things. The back is a receipt (my friend's idea)! It doesn't actually add up to $408.

More from Secondary One

I realise that I uploaded a lot more work onto my personal blog when I was in Secondary 1. For this reason I am able to share them here: even though my hard drive crashed years ago, Blogger still has them, and I don't have to reupload! It's actually a good way of archiving art works.

Moving on.

In Secondary 1 we had to partner up and make flags of peace using our mascots. I remember spending a long time on Photoshop for this. My partner wasn't as good with Photoshop, so I managed to learn a lot of things, about layer styles, brushes, the pen tool and loads more :) Here's how ours turned out.

This was done in paint! I am still very proud of it. I remember I tried to disguise the word 'Circles' somewhere. If you can actually find it, I will buy you chocolate.

These are the Photoshop assignments that we had to do for ICT! It was my first time using Photoshop. I loved it. I did Yoru first, then Temari and Miki. They are from Shugo Chara.

Another ICT assignment. I was very proud of my sandshrew.
